Welcome to the Learning and Development section of the WiSH website.  In response to the L&D WiSH survey we have begun to develop structure and content.  Developing these pages will be a continous process involving all of the network.  The 'about pages' will tell you more about the sort of content you will find within the L&D section.

Introduction

The Library Unit Learning and Development Team works with the Regional Learning and Development Group (RLDG) to promote learning opportunities for all NHS library staff within the network and support various CPD activities. Staff constitute the most important resource in the provision and improvement of health library and knowledge services.  Within this context the mission statement of the regional library unit learning and development team is:

MISSION STATEMENT
To provide library teams in the West Midlands regional health community with innovative, effective and timely opportunities to learn allowing them to develop the knowledge, skills, competence and vision to deliver high quality, progressive library and information services.

VISION
The Library Unit Learning and Development Team and RLDG is a creative leader and partner in advancing individuals and teams by:

  • Encouraging growth, discovery and innovation
  • Monitoring out-put of learning and development activity and ensuring it is fit for purpose
  • Serving as a role model and highlighting the importance of learning
  • Evaluating the long term impact of programmes
  • and holding itself to high standards of quality service

The Library Unit and RLDG commits to delivering the following in relation to workforce development:

  • Ensuring support for career and personal development of library staff
  • Supporting workforce planning and development of local library workforce to ensure that they are fit for practice

Members of the Library Unit support learning and development activities in various ways. Alison Pope (Learning and Development Lead) and Sharon Stevens (Knowledge Services Project Manager) have responsability for supporting and working with the RLDG to support career and personal development opportunities for the local library workforce.   All members of the Library Unit support learning and development activites: Bertha Low supports IM&T with a IM&T horizon scanning forum and Clare Edwards the Library Lead for the region.
